Hannah Mook, a Blind Brook High School senior, will be honored by Human Development Services of Westchester (HDSW) at a dinner and fundraiser at Coveleigh Club in Rye on Wednesday, June 11. Hannah is being recognized for her ongoing involvement at and outstanding service to HOPE House, a Port Chester clubhouse where individuals recovering from mental illness

receive support and resources needed to return to mainstream society. Hannah has established and runs a weekly art group at HOPE House, allowing members to use a variety of art projects to express their thoughts and feelings in a relaxed, informal and social environment. HDSW is a community-based nonprofit organization providing services to Westchester residents recovering from psychiatric illnesses.

Jennifer Gray of Keane & Beane, P. C., who handles planning and zoning issues for the Village of Rye Brook, and Joseph Kwasniewski of Port Chester Carver Center are two of the 40 under 40 who will be honored as members of the Business Council of Westchester's 2014 Class of Rising Stars at a ceremony on June 12. They are being honored as young rising stars who exemplify leadership, foresight and vision for the future of Westchester.

The Port Chester Dog Park Group is selling raffle tickets to support the building of a dog park in Port Chester. You do not have to be present (or own a dog) to win. Only 300 tickets will be sold at $100 each. Tickets purchased by June 15 get placed in an additional $500 raffle while still remaining in the main raffle. Tickets can be purchased at McShane's Pub, Marini's Deli, All Paws in Rye and at Port Chester Fest on Sat., June 7 from 12-4 p. m.

Josh Reichman of Rye Brook, a student at the University of Florida's Warrington College of Business Administration, has been named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2014 semester of his freshman year. He plans to double major in Business and Sports Management. Josh is the son of Stacey and Peter Reichman and is a graduate of Blind Brook High School.

Andrea Gerardi of Port Chester has earned President's List status for the Spring 2014 semester at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. President's List students have achieved a GPA of 3.9 or higher for coursework completed at Cabrini College with a minimum of 15 credits. Andrea is a 2012 graduate of Port Chester High School and is majoring in Elementary and Special Education.

Evan Groetch of Port Chester, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in German from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Vermont at commencement ceremonies on May 18.

Anika P. Krause of Port Chester was named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. To achieve Dean's List distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than C-during the course of their college career.

Daniel Servelli of Port Chester was granted an MBA from Dominican College of Blauvelt, N. Y. on May 18.

Sam Adler of Rye Brook has been selected for inclusion on the Dean's List for academic achievement during the Spring 2014 semester at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N. Y. He is member of the class of 2017 and is a Blind Brook High School graduate. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have completed at least four courses and have an academic average of 3.6 for the semester based on a 4.0 scale.

Samuel Connor King of Rye Brook, a member of the Bowdoin College Class of 2014, graduated cum laude May 24 with a major in Environmental Studies-Religion.

Chelsey Louis of Rye Brook was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Connecticut College in New London on May 18. Chelsey graduated with a major in Behavioral Neuroscience.

Jillian Forbes and Michael Hyatt, both from Rye Brook, were awarded B. S. degrees from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. Jillian received a degree in Business & Economics with Honors; Michael received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Gerardo Ceja and Michael Linehan, both of Port Chester, graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie on May 23. Gerardo received a B. S. degree in Criminal Justice; Michael received a B. A. degree in Communication.

Sarah M. Sgro of Rye Brook received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, N. Y. on May 25. A creative writing major, Sarah graduated magna cum laude with department honors in creative writing.

The Westchester County Clerk announced that tax appeals filed in the first half of 2014 are 18% lower than last year, which is encouraging news after the record high in 2011.

Westchester County Park Passes and Season Swim Passes are available for purchase. A Season Swim Pass is available to Westchester County Park Pass holders only and allows unlimited access to Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle, Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains, Tibbetts Brook Pool in Yonkers and Willson's Waves in Mt. Vernon all summer long. Parking charges are included in the price of the Season Swim Pass. An individual Swim Pass is $100; $75 for senior citizens. A Family Swim Pass is $250 and includes a maximum of two adults and all children ages 5-18 living at the same address only. All family members must be present at the time of purchase. The passes can be purchased only at the Swim Pass locations beginning Sun., June 15. Westchester County Park Passes are available to any county resident age 12 and older who has either a driver's license or photo ID with proof of Westchester residency. The Park Pass is a photo ID card that provides entry to all county-owned parks, pools and beaches where county residency is required and discounts on swimming fees. One park pass holder can bring two adult guests; adult pass holders may additionally bring in up to five children under age 12 at the guest fee. The pass also entitles the holder to various discounts on parking, golf, camping and boat launching. An individual Park Pass is $60 and is valid for three years from date of issue. It must be obtained in person and is non-transferable; it can be used only by its owner. A Family Park Pass is available for families who need to purchase two or more passes for their household. It is $120 and covers two adult passes and any children ages 12-18 living in the household. It is valid for three years from date of issue. All family members must be present at the time of purchase; individual passes are issued to each person. Senior Citizen Park Passes for adults age 60 and older are available for $60 and are valid for six years from date of issue. Park Passes for disabled residents are also available for $60 and are also valid for six years. An eligibility form must first be obtained from the county's Office for the Disabled at 914/995-2957. Passes are available seven days a week from 10 a. m.-4 p. m. at all six county-owned golf courses and Mon.-Fri., from 10 a. m.-4 p. m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains and at the parks department's administrative office at 450 Saw Mill River Rd. in Ardsley.
